What we’ve learned about HVAC Installation

30 years of HVAC replacement has taught us that home owners seldom look forward to the process.  Costs, inconvenience, time away from work and having strangers in your home truly need to be more than offset by the improvement in the: savings, comfort, reliability, and peace of mind from your new HVAC installation.  One Call truly understands that and goes out of our way to minimize the former and enhance the later.  There is an old saying in business “There are three things to consider in making a purchase: Quality, Service and Price – Pick Two”.  We know that balance is the word that each home owner needs to consider and having the advice of a trusted professional is worth the extra cost.  Bottom line is that we know that you need a HVAC installer you can trust!

HVAC Installation: Why consider a new HVAC system now?

There are still tax credits for weatherization and energy efficient HVAC systems and today’s HVAC systems are more efficient.  Tax credits used to be larger and the government has said they would end in the past yet they keep extending them.  2013 tax credits are available to assist paying for weatherization and a new HAVC system.  One Call is an HVAC installer in the southern region of the greater Atlanta Georgia area that will guide you to maximizing your opportunity.  Also, our 30 years of experience will pay off for you when you have us install a new HVAC system.  How?   Skimping now will cost you much more in years to come.  If you’re considering replacing your HVAC system now is the time to look to save money over the next 10 to 20 years. Getting the most energy efficient HVAC system possible along with weatherization, especially for your attic, can more than pay for the cost of the new system over that 10 to 20 year period.  If you current HVAC system was installed before 2006 and you haven’t paid special attention to the weatherization of your attic, you will likely spend enough extra in the next 5 years on energy to pay for about 50% of the cost of a new HVAC system.

HVAC Installation: Should You Repair or Replace Your HVAC System?

Besides the tax credits making the determination to repair or replace an HVAC system can be a bit of a challenge that needs balance.  If your primary consideration is financial I would suggest you look at your total cost of replacement and operation over the next 10 to 20 years.  First, know that HVAC systems built after 2006 can be up to 60% more efficient.  Second, most HVAC systems have a warranty of 5 to 10 years, that will cover the cost of the parts, if the HVAC system was properly maintained and had regular tune-ups.  This may be a bad time but someone needs to say “keep it maintained” it will last longer and cost less to operate.  And, oh yes, not having regular maintenance will void your warranty!

Just because you need a repair, even if it’s fairly costly, isn’t necessarily an indication you should replace the HVAC system.  It is more an issue of an expensive repair with an older HVAC unit.  If the HVAC system is off warranty and there is a substantial repair, that money could go towards a more efficient new system.   The operational savings of the new system along with the knowledge eventually you will need to replace the current HVAC system anyway tilts the balance in favor of a new system.  The tax credits may push it over.  If this is your second larger repair it leans even further in favor of replacement.

If you just happen to be reading this to be prepared - please make sure you have the HVAC maintenance plan, but we probably don’t need to tell you.  If you decide to repair the current problem and have the regular HVAC  tune-up those new parts and labor to replace them will be guaranteed for the next 5 years over and above the warranty.

HVAC Installation Cost

One of the most popular searches for “HVAC installation” is costs.  Most HVAC installers don’t want to talk about cost on their website so their website doesn’t come up when you search “HVAC installation cost”.

A few websites will sell you the equipment and only quote the price for the equipment.  Those websites will quote prices but that is only for the individual components not the re-design and labor to install it.  Simply replacing the components with similar will ensure you’re paying more for energy over the next 10 to 20 years eating up any savings and likely costing you much more in the long run. Others want to say something, so they will come up in the searches, without talking about actual prices saying the costs very so much depending on each home.  That is true but they don’t truly try to inform you.

One Call is trying to inform you without dumping too much on you.  There is no simple answer as to the cost of replacing an HVAC system.  All the components come separately and have to be designed to fit properly considering weatherization and higher efficiency HVAC Stsyems.  It’s not as simple as replacing the old with the same size.  The components are only part of the cost.  The cost to replace an HVAC system will depend on many factors such as: the size of the home (some homes have more than one HVAC unit), the quality of the replacement HVAC system and the energy efficiency of the home.  Today’s higher efficiency HVAC systems also carry higher initial costs so balancing efficiency of the unit with the cost has to be balanced with the energy efficiency of the home.

The first consideration you need to be able to make is financial.  Are you able and willing to spend more now in order to save even more over the years to come?  If so then it opens you up to many areas that can be examined such as the energy efficiency of the: home, HVAC unit, air ducts.  If not then you will be limited to the quality and efficiency of the replacement HVAC unit.

If you’re home has never had an energy audit and you’re willing to invest in one that can be the best foundation to a long term savings plan.  Homes that can control the energy used will benefit from smaller HVAC system.  Smaller HVAC systems that are also more efficient benefit from smaller air ducts and having sealed and insulated ducts will help even more.  Imagine saving 60% or more on utility costs over the next 10 to 20 years.  Hopefully you get the idea why it is so important to give good consideration as to replacing your HVAC system and having a true professional install it to ensure the savings are optimized.
